Junior Carpender h.w. 3/11/08

1. If you had 27 2"x4" pieces of wood, what is the total width of height?
54 =height
108=width

2. What was the biggest challenge you faced today while you were working? What steps did you you take to daefet your challenge?
My biggest challenge that I faced today is that it was so freaking hot! It was like you were in the dessert. That realy affected my posture today beacase when the sun rays atack my skin, I start to sweat and get realy tired. That makes my proformance very sloppy when I work.

3.What is your work plan for tomorow?
My work plan for tomorow is to make our finishing touches on the Gaga Pit. We have to paint a little to make the Gaga Pit perfected. For exaple: on the entrance, and on the screws to camofloge the coler of the small pieace of metal.

1. What were some problems you faced today? How did you overcome them?
One problem that I had was that when I tried to drill the nail into the wood; it was pretty hard. you had to drill realy realy hard. I mean, it was seriously hard! The nail whould silp of almsot evry time you put the nail in. Plus sometimes the screw whould be obliterated by the speed of the power drill. I overcame that by alway's pushing the nail as hard as I can.

2.Explain your favorate part of today.
My absolute most favorate part of the day is (even thou it was the most difficult part of the day) was when I was drilling. It was so awsome. It was like you could express your feelings when you grab and drill the sturdy screw into it's rightful place. Even thou the screw whould slipp of, it was great.

1. Explain one challenge you faced, and how you overcame it?
One big challenged that I faced was that sometimes some of my partners whould not cooperate. Either thei didn't bring in permision slips, or thei were just lazy. for example some people in my group (I dont want to say names) did not turn in thier permission slips and so I had to do all the cutting of the wood. I did not realy overcome this challenge, my partners just broat in their permission slips the next day!

2. What acomplishments are you proud of from this past week? Why are you proud of them?
One accomplishment that I am realy proud of is that one day when I wasn't here evrybody played a game named Gaga. The day after we played the same game, and I was won two times. I am proud beacause even when evrybody else hade more experience than me; I prooved that I can be just as good.

3. What is the next step in your procces to compleiting your project? How will you get there?
My next step to commpleting this project is building the Gaga Pit by putting wood together. I will get there by helping my group in doing the best we can to attach piece by peice of wood together.

Junior Carpenders Reflection

In the past three days we learned about many many difffrent types of wood. I learned how we are going to make the Gaga Pit. Plus learning diffrent fractions and saw's. We skeched the Gaga Pit and the Bean Bag Boards. Another cool experience was that Lary Rossenstoc (the person who founded the hightech villadge) droped in to teach us about carpendry. I learned more about fractions and how to learn angles to perfect our math skills. we learned how to create and how we are going to make the Gaga Pit. Pls we finaly got to cut! We cut some crappy wood but it was still extremely fun.the nexed day pased and we actualy started to build the Gaga Pit! we got help from will (a really experienced carpender) and his frinds to help us.
Now I feel alot more confedent about cutting and being a carpender in genral. Evrything was entirely new to me but was an awsome experience.

Junior Carpenders hw 3/4/08

1.When measuring your lumber on 3/4/08, what came up, and what did you notice that may make cutting difficult in the future?
I found that when it comes to measuring and cutting;it takes serious work. Also, I found out that some wood that came in from Home Depot was not so precise. Some whould was to long, and some wood was to short.I noticed that if we fool around or don't make your angels preacise; that will definatly make cutting way more difficult for evrybody.

2.If you had to teach someone how to use a hand saw, what whould you say?
If I were to teach someone how to use a saw I whould say,"You first need to put your gogles on and grab your saw in your hand. Then you need to grab your wood on that you are going to cut. Then start to cut a little notch in the wood. After you've got a good solide notch you start to cut hard with the line right bellow you saw.

3.What is the magic number we reapeated 10 times, and why is it important to reamember?
The magic number is 67.5. It is important to reamember beacause: one of the angles of the gaga pit is 135 degrees. And when you devide that by two, that eguals 67.5. That number (67.5) is one of the main numbers we are going to be using in class. Beacause when we start to build the gaga pit we are going to be cutting the wood at that angle.
